Danae Papadopoulou

BA, MSc

I was born and raised in Athens, where I completed school and obtained the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. I then studied Psychology (BA) at The American College of Greece (Deree), graduating with upper second-class honours and receiving the magna cum laude distinction.

During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a lab assistant for the Research in Psychology course. At the same time, I volunteered at the NGO “Fainareti,” which focuses on women’s mental health during the perinatal period. After earning my degree, I completed my internship at Aiginiteio Hospital and at 18 ANO of the Psychiatric Hospital of Athens. More specifically, at Aiginiteio, I worked in the Women’s Mental Health outpatient clinic as an assistant in both clinical practice and research. At the same time, at 18 ANO I worked as a co-facilitator in art therapy groups within closed rehabilitation programs for mothers as well as men. Also, I volunteered at the pediatric oncology department of MITERA Hospital as an assistant psychologist.

Later, I pursued further studies in Mental Health with a focus on psychological therapies (MSc) at Queen Mary University, and in Drama and Movement Therapy (MA) at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. There, I worked as a dramatherapist in a general middle school and a special education school with children aged 6 to 14, offering both group and individual sessions to students referred by school psychologists and special education staff. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I provided online dramatherapy sessions to groups of individuals with mental disorders and intellectual disabilities, in collaboration with the Society of Social Psychiatry – P. Sakellaropoulos and the art therapist of the Fokida department.

Afterwards, I relocated to Paros, where I have been living and working for the past three years. I obtained my license to practice as a psychologist in Greece and continue my training in Contemporary Interpersonal Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy of Athens, as well as in School Psychology and Bullying through the e-learning program of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA). I am an active member of IARPP, the International Association for Relational Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, (and the Hellenic Psychological Society) and hold the Online PMAD Screening Badge for the assessment of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
